Pool operators

Who are the pool operators of the Z-Pool tool?

Pool operators are organizational units (e.g., an institute, a department, or a research group) at the University of Zurich, ETH Zurich, or another DIZH university that operate a pool of test subjects using the Z-Pool tool software platform.

Pool operators are assigned several functions that involve tasks related to the use of a pool of test subjects. Depending on the size of the pool, these functions may be distributed among several people:

  • Pool owner: The formal owner of a pool (e.g., an institute represented by its director). The pool owner is authorized to sign the user agreement with the Z-Pool tool and is responsible for ensuring compliance with the data protection obligations associated with the operation of a pool.
  • Pool manager: The person responsible for the operational and technical maintenance of a pool.
  • Recruiter: The person responsible for recruiting prospective study participants both for the pool itself and (on behalf of the pool users) for individual studies.

Pool operators can determine the conditions under which researchers are allowed to use their pools.
